about

VisuaLingual is a design/print studio based in Cincinnati, OH, founded by a Brooklynite and a Hoosier. We've been conspiring together for over ten years on design projects and life in general. We've grown our operation from a small room in our apartment to most of our apartment plus a workspace around the corner in the neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine we call home.

Our work is a reflection of our interests in cities, place, typography, travel and all kinds of esoteric ephemera. We make an assortment of housewares, apparel, gardening and other products as well as client-based graphic design projects. Our work is available for sale on our site and through an ever-growing list of stores.

Maya, the Brooklynite, was born in Gdynia, Poland and raised in Gdynia and Brooklyn. She received her BA in Philosophy and Critical Theory from Cornell University and her MFA in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Maya's interests center on graphic design theory, particularly its intersection with popular culture and the urban environment. Her professional experience includes years spent in identity, print, interaction, and environmental design on both coasts, as well as teaching, lecturing, writing, and curating design exhibits. At VisuaLingual, she is the VP of Luck Management.

Michael, the Hoosier, grew up as a suburban hooligan spending his time in train yards, alleyways and rooftops while studying graphic design at Herron School of Art and Design. Later he wandered aimlessly, working in print and copy shops. Interest in art and public space led him to earn a Masters in Urban Planning at the University of Cincinnati, where he learned to crunch numbers, make maps, and appreciate the city for its chaos. Michael's focus on urban design and economic development led to his years of work in the public art field as an arts administrator. At VisuaLingual, he is the VP of Whatever It Takes.

We support causes that are near and dear to our hearts, including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Over-the-Rhine Community Housing, Visionaries & Voices, OTR Foundation, ArtWorks, and the OTR/Gateway Summer Celebration.
